CORMAC O’LEARY

Cormac O'Leary was born in Cork city, Ireland in 1969. He studied fine art at Sligo IT (now ATU) from 1987 -1991. He has held over 30 solo exhibitions including The Doorway Gallery, Dublin  (2017 / 19), Barbara Stanley Gallery, London (2007 / 08 / 15 / 16)  Chimera Gallery, Mullingar (2013 / 17) Quayside Gallery, Westport Mayo (2012). Group exhibitions include Woven, Sasse Museum, Los Angeles, USA - with Hambly & Hambly (2023) Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, (2016 / 17 / 22) Royal Ulster Academy, Belfast (2016 / 18 / 21) Awards include Milliken Bros Art Materials Award (2000) Iontas Painting Award (2001)His work can be found in many public collections including Allied Irish Banks, Iona Technologies, Sligo County Library collection, Cork County Library collection, UK Civil Service collection, Office of public works, Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment, Cleary Architects, Crawford Art Gallery collection, Cork, Irish Financial Services Centre, DublinHis work can be found in private collections in Ireland, UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, USA, Australia & Japan.

Cormac O'Leary' s work explores landscape, interiors, still life and figurative imagery with a sense of lyrical simplicity and minimal composition.  His process is informed by the textural nature of oil paint and its rich qualities of depth and opacity as well as the limitless range of tonality and colour. Emotional memory and visual experiences inform his painting themes.
