Ciara Gormley
Ciara Gormley
Ciara Gormley is a painter who explores the relationship between colours, light, figuration and abstraction.
‘I try to paint the way I experience scenes, the way light and colours are constantly shifting, to capture that movement in the painting, the way different details catch your eye and also to give shape to the things that are felt and not necessarily seen.’
Ciara works on several paintings simultaneously in the studio, with one body of work leading naturally to the next. Drawing plays an essential role in her work with pencil lines often evident in her paintings.
Ciara was awarded an Artlinks Bursary in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 by Waterford County Council, who also awarded her a 2nd Residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in 2019. She recently completed the Turps Correspondence Course Mentorship Program in London and has exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Ireland and the U.K.
Ciara Gormley was recipient of The John Richardson French Residency Award 2023.
’The painting has just arrived and it is very beautiful. It captures so perfectly that strange, rich autumnal tangle - and is utterly mesmerising in its own right…’ (appreciation from collector)
